Here's an interesting review of the 545 SMG

Another technology challenged iDrive critic who doesn't get SMG, either. He does make an excellent case for including the SP, though.

I just don't get it - what is it about I Drive that is so complicated for these reviewers? Am I just a genious? I was able to manipulate the thing almost instantly-what's so hard about it ? It makes me distrust the validity of the entire review.

The idrive issues don't make sense to me, either. It so easy to operate, even a journalist should be able to do it...

Actually I'm a bit disappointed in iDrive. After reading that it was really difficult to use, I then find out that it wasn't. I was hoping it would be more complex.

There aren't that many options to play around with.

Anyone know the specifics on this? I would imagine that any software changes or iDrive simplifications would trickle down to the 2004 models, wouldn't you?

Also, this should probably be moved to the news/articles forum, I think...

So MY2005 has an even more simplified i-drive??? I wonder about that. Because its all software based, I would think the next version of the software will bring the same enhancements to us.

I hear people criticizing iDrive who have no experience using it at all. It seems the criticism of iDrive reached a kind of critical mass with the 7 series, and at this point the "experts" are predisposed to regurgitate much of what they have read and heard in lieu of experience or rational thought. Whether one thinks iDrive is imperfect or not, the amount of negativism concerning a system which can go unused for days or weeks at a time is way out of proportion to reality, and it?s largely driven by people who do not own these cars.
