Yes yes...the sound, the slightly better response but that's it. Overall performance i reckon the 535d to be as fast as the 540i and in the right conditions even faster. I underline UNDER SOME CONDITIONS EVEN FASTER. And if you think that only with 2000euros you can have an extra 78bhp equalising a total of 350bhp then well that's indeed a no brainer.

For me between 535d and 540i comes only 2 variables: What do i want more, or what weighs more in my decision? The sound or the better fuel economy? I get with my 535d around town an average of 13L/100km in a 540i you get aorund 18-19 liters minimum. Having agreed that both cars are equal in performance, does that worth the better sound? No thanx. I better save my money, if people consider diesel buyers so poor, i better save the money and have it chipped and then smoke 540i everyday and still come more economical .
I'm telling you guys for performance/fun/economics nothing AND I MEAN NOTHING beats the 535d.
Yeah, but when the heart rules the head the Petrol is smoother, sexier and quieter everytime!!

I think we've already established pretty conclusively that it doesnt

And the first part of your post has left a very disturbing mental image in my mind

Well I left a 650Ci over a 4 or 5 mile stretch of dual carrigeway with a couple of roundabouts in between, and he said he just couldn't keep up. Maybe he had a friday afternoon car or something.

Well I stand corrected!! What more conclusive proof than this do we need that the 535 is indeed quicker.

I already said about it before, and joked it was either the extra weight of the cab or a crap driver.

You are such a nice guy!!

"700700 is just a wind up merchant, everything he posts is there to annoy people as far as I can see.

He seems to have his cock in a Mercedes exhaust all the time and slags BMW in general, he knows there are loads of 535d owners so he now slates them. "

and you are just as nice it appears

Sorry, it was said tongue in cheek, everytime I see your posts it is Merc this or Merc that, probably jus the posts I have seen of yours.
And I do think you are a wind up merchant, as do many other members on here I am sure, including yourself.

I obviously upset you with my comment, I didn't mean to.

May edition

Dominic Holtam 540i review

In its role the 540i excels. It would make wonderful long-distance business tool and its engine has a character and bite than no diesel can match- not even the 535d. The voice, the crispness of response and the redline-chasing freedom brings a smile to your face every time you flex your right ankle?. Let?s be honest. It?s nice to drive a car that appeals to the heart (540i) more than the head (535d)

ITV's well known Martin Brundle who swapped the 535d for an m5
page29

Despite what the magazines say you can tell it?s a diesel. The more I drove it the less I could cope with the diesel clatter. For me every machine starts and finishes with its engine, and while I admired the torque, the more I drove it the more the diesel noise annoyed me? The M5 is a lot more fun, every journey is an adventure.
glad to know that most of the motoring press is thinking clear
You are the worlds biggest Bulgarian wind-up artiste I've been missing you

So ... if I read it right Martin Brundle is directly comparing the M5 and the 535d and concluding that the M5 is more fun and more refined.

So ... the fact that he is EVEN COMPARING a stinky diesel to an //M makes me want to borrow a 535d and play with it for a few hours ....

I couldn't afford to run an M5 given what I need my car to do, but I COULD afford a 535d and if it is only slightly less good I will be VERY happy.
