Yes yes...the sound, the slightly better response but that's it. Overall performance i reckon the 535d to be as fast as the 540i and in the right conditions even faster. Well I left a 650Ci over a 4 or 5 mile stretch of dual carrigeway with a couple of roundabouts in between, and he said he just couldn't keep up. Maybe he had a friday afternoon car or something.

For me every machine starts and finishes with its engine, and while I admired the torque, the more I drove it the more the diesel noise annoyed me? The M5 is a lot more fun, every journey is an adventure.

I've been missing you So ... if I read it right Martin Brundle is directly comparing the M5 and the 535d and concluding that the M5 is more fun and more refined.
So ... the fact that he is EVEN COMPARING a stinky diesel to an //M makes me want to borrow a 535d and play with it for a few hours ....
I couldn't afford to run an M5 given what I need my car to do, but I COULD afford a 535d and if it is only slightly less good I will be VERY happy.
