My Ride: 2006 530i, Jet Black, Tan, Premium, Steptronic
It is held in by two small grommets. You have to pry the badge out by carefully prying up on one side then the other.

The rear roundel on the X5 (E70) is a bear to remove - and does not use the same removal process as the one on the hood or like the ones on E60. I believe the crome assembly is attached to the vehicle with double sided tape in addition to any grommets. I've been trying to find a DIY as I want to replace mine as well.
