After introducing two variants of the 2.0 litre diesel, here's the third. It uses the same principal as the 535d with "vairable twin turbos", delivering 204 BHP. With 400 Nm torque this engine will shift any BMW it will be placed in! BMW has yet to confirm which series that will be using this new engine, but they at least have said at a presentation that the fuel consumption will be almost on the same level as the 2.0/177 BHP.
Anyone have more information?

In the future, for sure.
BMW has understood the point of having two main engine blocks, 2 litre R4 and 3 litre L6,
plus the (new M3 has a 4 litre) V8 and the V12.
This is of course smart, since for one cylinder theroretical mechanics calculations
prefers 0,5 litre per cylinder and BMW is by far the best engine designer for sixinline 6 engines.
If you look into the new 2 and 3 litre BMW engines, you'll find that the stroke dimensions
are within 88/90 x 84/85 mm...
The smaller R4 1,6 litre engine development has already been partly outsourced with the French
PSA group. The new 116i and the Minis will have these engines.
The six-in-line 3 litre engines are and will be the most important and best choices for a / BMW...
