Its really funny with this new car. The 545i is great and fast no doubt, but I think the 130 can keep up.

All experiments and experience so far makes me think so

IMO a good competition would be between 130i and 535d. Even though the 130i is faster than the 535d by 0.3 sec from 0-100 from then the 535d would show it's advantage with all the torque. It would be a good fight.

Its torque is already implemented in the "6,5 sec." from 0- 100 km/h. I drive on the Bahn every day, I have had these comparisons. The 530d is no problem, the 535d is kinda equall, but it is unable to pass, on vmax the 535d is not faster either.

The question is: the "part" behind the sterring wheel will make the difference.

I understand u. I know that the torque is "implemented" in the 0-100 time, i ment after 100.
"Even though the 130i is faster than the 535d by 0.3 sec from 0-100, from then the 535d would show it's advantage with all the torque" should have put a comma after 100.

Yes, ok, but torque is not everything. I rather use the "specific power" to estimate a cars acceleration (mass/HP), meaning xx kilos have to be accelerated by 1 HP.

130i: 1450/265= 5,47
BUT: its funny with the 130i, a lot of them have more power than specified by BMW, it was a good month I would estimate mine to 280 HP based on the driving (compared to other cars). Have taken the time 0-100 over and over, BMW says 6,1 s., I say 5,7 s. Vmax 274 km/h (GPS measured), I had vmax limitation removed.

535d: 1735/272= 6,37

When I speak about acceleration, I really dont mean 0-100, more 100-end, thats everyday life on the Bahn. In this discipline not even a M3 gets past my little car, its freaky! I wouldnt have a chance 0-100, but 100-270 it starts with M5, Porsche etc.

535d is not faster in either discipline, I get to test it every day

Weird isnt it?

If what u say is true...and ur car has been underevaluated than it might be true. Although i hardly imagine that 280bhp figure. You should run a dyno and see...not comparing on real life on your subjective or objective assumption. That's the best test imo.
I agree torque is not eveything but it is important especially in sprints. If similar cars are floored from whatever (stand still, 100, doesn't matter) the car with more torque wins. But in our case there is a huge gap of weight...that's what i was trying to say. It may compensate. My car was doing 220km/h at 3000rpms and at 250 (limiter) or 255 the most it does 3500-3600rpms. If u follow logicly, giving the 1000 rpms left, without the limiter, the diesel should hit also around 270.

Although i didn't drive the 130i i find ur comments a bit exagerated regarding the m5, porsche 100-end. I drove the m5 and bealive me...it would smoke any stock non-m beemer. Even the e39 m5 smokes the 130i. We are talking about different animals here.

Hi,

no, thats what I am saying, the 130i has no chance next to any M5 or any Porsche. I dont want to argue who is faster, it really doesnt matter.

My friend?s 130i was built one day before mine, we have actually the same acceleration times, we drive side by side. In the meanwhile he added a compressor, crazy guy. His 130 was on the power test stand: before compressor (normal serial 130i) 279 HP, after compressor 319 HP I think it was.

One thing I know for sure regarding diesels, maybe the 535d will also make 270 km/h, but considering the high rpm?s it is at at that high speed, further acceleration comes much slower than a comparible gas engine, it just looses power as the rpm?s go up. A lot of people are not aware of that, but just look at your torque/power diagramm. Every td has its max torque at only 2000 rpm, then it really goes downhill.

Given the fact that power=torque x rpm, ones sees its impossible to build up more power since the curve goes down more than the higher rpm?s can compensate.

Lets not argue which car is or is not faster, lets enjoy our bmw?s!!
