Personally I wouldn't do it. The std E46 M3 is really too soft & heavy for regular trackwork. You'll suffer enough depreciation in 1yr to have instead bought yourself a dedicated track car. Thanks for the advice however I have maybe not make my position clear.
I have shared use of a Caterham superlight track only car so the E46 M3 is to be my main form of transport. I do few miles so the mpg is not a problem. Also have a second famoly hatchback

having owned a 05 m3 coupe, I can say that it's a super car... 27mpg and what an exhaust note!! However, its difficult to get all the power down, unless you turn off DSC. I did 18k in mine and it was fun. Although you do need to use the gears. One final thing, did i tell You about the engine noise!!
