My Ride: Now: 325i (E90) with auto-airco, PDC, buss-nav, Xenon.....
Earlier cars: 520i (E60), 523i (E39), 520i (E34), mini-1000
(all cars: man. gearbox!)
Hi Forum members,
This is a formal 'Goodbye', because i've 'swapped' my E60 for a E90. A 520i for an 325i, to be exact. I've promissed to inform this forum about it.
My first impressions:
- Noise level, almost the same. The engine sounds a bit 'stronger/darker'. I've not driven faster as 120 km/h, so i'can't say the noise level at higher speeds (yet)
- You can feel, the E90 is not so 'heavy', it drives more 'agile' (right word?)
- Enigine is better responding and more fuel economic.
- Less 'leg-space' at the back-seats (Of course, the 5 series is the bigger car) At the front, i've absolutly no 'problems' with the space.
- How you call it in english... the break-feature 'hill drive away aid' is working fine.
- Dynamic Cruise Control (with break-function) not tested yet, because we don't have long decending roads in Holland. java script:emoticon('
')
- No rattles (E60: front doors, for example!)
- I'am missing (a bit, it's not a disaster) the 'pre ventilation'. (via the timer with 2 presets)
- the E90 has smaller mirrors outside
I think, the E90 is more BMW as the E60. The E90 is more a 'drivers car' as the E60 and in mine opnion, that's why you want a BMW. Maybe the 'bigger' engines on a E60 are fine, but engines of the 520i/525i are not 'lively' enough. Especially with an automatic gearbox. (b.t.w. my 520i and 325i has a man. gearbox)
I don't speak about the design differences of the E60 and E90, that's is very personal (but i prefer the E90 as the more beautiful car java script:emoticon('
'))

Let's see some pictures. I agree with the fact that the 3 series is a more drivers car.
I like the E60 more because for me it's more af a superlimo

RoBMW,
Congrats on your new car. I'm waiting for US availability of the e90 before I decide between the 530i (with new engine) or 330i.
Hopefully the new 530i will be more of a "driver's car" by being more nimble on its feet with 255hp and weighing only 44 pounds more than the 330i.
Only a test drive will tell!

LR DISCO 3 HSE with everything (including 3 kids)
Congrats - nice car.
I actually saw my first E90 on the road today. It looks great! What it came up behind me I had trouble spotting exactly what it was. It looks quite imposing on
the road - I almost mistook it for an E60 !
First impressions :
- The "lip" at the top of the grill looks very distinctive
- The wing mirrors are oval and look much more sporty
- The overall design is very clean and without any of the dis-jointed features the E60 suffers from (although they have grown on me).
- The Rear end looks cleaner than the E60.
I am looking forward to seeing the Sport versions and the M3.
