Yes. There are certain emission rules in the U.S.A which has compromised the performance. The overall difference in the top speed won't be much of a difference (without the limiter that is ) but it sure does affect the 0-60 timings....you can check out the times given by the bmw people on bmwusa.com and bwm.co.uk...in their catalog

The emission rules in the European union are somewhat more lenient

While it might be ironic that this is your first post, that still doesn't make it correct. Euro IV is as tight as any US standard with one exception: particulate emissions for diesels.

The 550 advertises more power in the EU, but that is due to different measurement techniques.

"but that is due to different measurement techniques.".....hmmmm i always thought that even if u use different techniques the end result should be the same if there isn't any difference in the car engine... wow go to school again

So the 550i is the exact same in both, and 0-60 is 5.5 in both?

Assuming the gear ratios are the same, they will perform the same. You ought to be able to look up that bit.

Lesson 1: Learn the definition and understand the differences between SAE gross hp, SAE net hp, and DIN ps. All are different methods of measuring the same engine, and will produce different results.

Bonus points if you also understand that the "metric" unit for horsepower is not equal to the US unit of horsepower, much like an Imperial gallon is not the same as a US gallon.

There will be a test.

Okay. I was thinking the same thing, but i had a couple of fellows telling me that the whole exhaust is changed up and its capable of doing the 0-60 in 5.1 instead of 5.5

But thanks for your help to prove them wrong.

I believe US cars have charcoal filters, but ROW doesn't.
