As a former Z4 3.0 owner I hope they have sorted out the terrible ride quality of that car. I've never owned a car that had such harsh suspension and I have always had BMW's with sport suspension as I prefer a firm ride. The Z4 is just abysmal though when fitted with the combination of runflats, 18" wheels and the sport suspension (the latter being a non-deletable option on the 3.0 here in the UK). The new 987 Boxster is a vast improvement in terms of handling and ride comfort over the Z4 IMHO so this car needs to be good if it is going to tussle with the Cayman. Porsche have fitted the Cayman with the 3.4ltr engine from the previous generation 996 - 911 and it is a very fast car as a result.

I think the designers have done a good job with the transition to a coupe and I love the interior on this concept. I hope BMW don't downgrade it in the production car and make it less "special". With Z4 sales in freefall they need to make this car special to turn things around.

I test drove one a couple of years and in my short ride I totally agree with you about the ride quality. I'd go over a railroad track and it felt like the car whole car was going to come apart, not to mention the impact to me.

My Ride: Black 520i, Black leather interior, Active Steering, DSC, PDC, Ornamental grille, Audio Aux Input
Wink

What really appeals to me is the mixture of dynamic stance + flame surfacing + the fact that it looks like an old-school sports car

part ferrari at the rear + part viper in side profile

looking like a huge aluminium based sculpture.

i really do hope they have sorted the ride issue
otherwise the sweet packaging is wasted

i agree the cayman would handle better (some would say it's even more sorted than even the 911) but the Z4 coupe looks more appealing. The cayman still looks slightly too tame IMHO.

The cayman with options is $301,888 here in singapore

In the press release at frankfurt, BMW claimed a reworked & new suspension system for the coupe - hopefully to rival the PSM??
