The comparable Cayenne model to the X6 50i is the Turbo, and it's the better vehicle of the two. There is a price difference, but that's to be expected from a premium product. You've got to pay to play. Mind you, the Cayenne is a proper SUV whereas the compromised X6 isn't really quite sure what it is. I'd still take the GTS over the X6 50i, but the Turbo is the proper comparison here.

LOL come to think of it...not really. GTS has pretty much the same hp as the X6 while the Turbo has 100 hp more. That's 25% more power. Also it's 25% more money. So not so much as a competitor.

However the X6 will surely stand up to the Turbo. While the Porsche is 25% more powerfull it's only 0.3 seconds quicker to 100km/h. Primarily that's because the Porsche is heavier by roughly 100kgs.

New X6 M which has been confirmed will surely take on the Turbo S (and turbo likewise).

The top model from each manufacturer's current range is a fair comparison. Cost isn't really relevant - if you don't have the coin, then the X6 effectively becomes the budget option when compared to the Turbo (just as BMW is typically the premium option when customers look at lower cost but still capable cars from other manufacturers). It's simply a reflection BMW's position in the marketplace when compared to Porsche.

Don't forget Porsche will also release updated models - so who's to say a future Turbo S won't hand it to the future X6M?

Bigger issue, though, is the X6 isn't really an SUV. Great road car, but compromised space and limited storage and it doesn't have the off road hardware that you get in the Cayenne and other "real" SUV's. As an example, the majority of cars that ran in the TransSyberia Rally (which runs from from Moscow to Mongolia) were Cayennes, and they were only lightly modded at that as they must be road legal to compete. That's something that you need a real SUV to do, and X6 wouldn't cut it. Porsche is, in fact, planning to release a model variant based on the TransSyberia rally cars.

I have driven a friend's Cayenne GTS which was incredible for an SUV (soo much better than the Cayenne S they don't even feel like the same car). But the X6 takes the cake by a mile. It's not even close. Within a couple hundred feet you notice that the X6 doesn't even feel like an SUV at all.
Lucky you, I love the X6.

At least before this recession there was a X6 M to come...

What motor does the 5.0 have, specs?
A 4,4 liter twin-turbo V8 with the both turbos inside the V!

407 hp between 5,500 - 6,400 rpm and 600 Nm between 1,750 - 4,500 rpm

The same engine the new F01 750i has.
