Take a look at the latest issue of Car (actually the new issue might be out by now in the UK so it might be a recent issue), they compare the 320d against three others and it's the clear winner.
The last or one before last CAR magazine also has a 1 page comparison of the 320d Sport with the Alpina version - you might want to look that one up too. I think they're also running a 330i estate on a long term test.

If you need rear leg room forget about the E90.

If you are looking to go to a E90, dont get a 320d sport, get an Alpina D3 instead. Its much more powerful and its cheaper. It will probably hold its value better aswell.
At the time of the release of the D3, I was hoping they would have a "D5" (a 520d with the Alpina engine mod) as well, but that was not available. Anyone knows why?

Thinking of changing to a 320d sport should I or not

You must be out of your mind. Why go for hamburger when you are eating steak? Go for a new e60 525M sport

I agree, I took out a 330d toruing the other day, I had it for 2 days as I was thinking of swapping over to something a little smaller and a bit more nimble, well it feels smaller alright, but only inside, the car felt no more chauckable than my 5 series and felt considerably slower.
The other thing I hated was the brakes, they were shocking. almost verging on dangerous they were that bad.

Neither the 320d or the 520d will be very fast, they will both be fine out on the road though, but as neither are that fast I would definitley go with the 5, so much more car all round.
If you were trying to decide over a 550i and an M3 that would be different, but between these 2 it would be 5 everytime for me.
