It isnt being neglected. When BMW are set to do a facelift they tend to store up the advances until the facelift is launched. Then you will see all the new engines.

Not sure, but it's actually 3 litres! I would guess about 440-450Nm...

Indeed, they're using the 5 series to 'get rid' of all the 'old' engines...

September 2007 seems to be mentioned! But I can't believe it will be that long... I reckon the new engines will hit this September myself... My guess is that 540i will be dropped and replaced by 535i, new 525d and 535d. Maybe updates for 530i to ~270bhp.
