The 1 series is coming to the US in early 2008, badged as the 135i. Most importantly it is going to have the 335i powerplant, 3.0 twin turbo. That thing is going to fly.

My Ride: 528i
Model Year: 2011
I rented a 1-Series in Germany last week and was very impressed with everything but the power. The rental was brand new (23km) and very nicely equipped with nav and other features but it was a 116i. That's the lowest power engine they offer. It really struggled but the chassis was great and the quality of the interior and finish was first rate.
Most I could get on the Autobahn was 180 kph. BMW claims 200 kph top speed for this model but that's really optomistic.
However, with a six this Baby Bimmer will scream. Should make a killer autocross platform.

Not sure what the weight diference is between the 1series and 3series. The power to weight ratio of 135i should be amazing. 300+hp in that tiny car, its going to move. It should handle like a go-cart, if you throw in some coil-overs. I'm 6'3 tall, but I would consider driving this thing.
