Hello all,
I'm from Australia NSW and wanting to buy a 525i E60. Probably an 2004 model with around 100,000 kms on it.
My concern is what everybody tells me, parts, problems etc. So I'm asking for your opinions, your thoughts..
What do I look out for? Are parts really that expensive? Are their known faults with this model??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Dean..

You can use the search function for "maintenance" to see what to "look" out for. This is a Bimmer so parts/labor can be expensive depending on issue and if you go to dealer or not. Small issues ranging from a few hundred to more critical issues costing a thousand or two or more. Most of us obviously believe the car is worth what may or may not happen/cost. Make sure you do enough research on the car itself, previous owner, maintenance records etc. At 100k not many warranty products available. Good luck.

If you buy an E60 out of warranty, make sure you save some money in the bank for "just in case" problems. Personally I recommend the non turbo inline 6 models (525, 530, 528) because they typically have less problems and maintenance issues than the V8s (from what I've read over the years).
Good Luck, and do A LOT of research before you decide on any particular 5 series. And also, when you find a 5 you really like, make sure to have it inspected by a dealer FIRST before you buy.

Some would say yes, some would say no. In the middle of summer with the AC on, it's definitely not going to be very quick. But, for the rest of the time it's plenty of power for day to day driving. Also the gas mileage can be pretty good if you try to drive easy. Granted this is no turbo 535 or V8 550, it is sill a great motor and silky smooth in acceleration. Test drive one and see what you think. BTW, in 06 the 525 actually got a 3.0 motor, so the 06 and newer are going to be quicker than the older ones.
