Hi guys, been lurking at this forum for a couple of days, and I have a few questions about the new 5 series, specifically concerning the M sport package. First off, what models support the M Sport package? What are the advantages of it? What is the difference in the bodies of the M sport and a regular 5 series, now I'm not just talking about the kit, I have seen some pics where there is a distinct difference between the front of the M sport model and the regular model, such as the indent in front of the headlights, why is this, and specifically what are these differences? On to diesel: What are the advantages of Diesel? And finally: What would be the top 3 5 series cars on the market aside from the M5, all these numbers are too confusing, 535 530 520 540 550 M5 xi i...
Thanks for all the help, you guys have a very nice forum here.

Hi DarkSpartan,
First of all, welcome to forum
The M-sport package consists of M5 suspension upgrade, steering wheel, and M-look-a-like front and rear bumpers. Also, side skirt is also included.
The advantage of diesel is saving gas, and giving out a lot of low end torque, but it does not give out as much horse power as gasoline engine does. The main purpose of diesel is saving gas and high torque. That's why you see it's very popular in Europe due to high gas price.
M5 is V10, 5.0L
550 is V8, 4.8L
545 is V8, 4.4L
540 is V8, 4.0L (E60 model, and 4.4L on E39 model)
530 is I6, 3.0L
...
xi is all wheel drive.
i is gasoline engine
d is diesel engine

Well if you're in the US... aside from the M5 the top 3 models currently on sale for 2006 are the only 3 models on sale... 525, 530 and 550.
With 215hp 255hp, and 360hp

I'm not sure if BMW NA does a diesel model. The advantages of diesel for us in the UK is that we get better fuel economy, less tax, and mountains of torque from diesel.
The M-Sport kit consists of the aggressive bodykit and sports suspension (i think) - many owners prefer the look of this kit as it makes the car look aggressive.
anyhow, hope that helps!

BMW's car badging is very easy to understand. They have 4 model lines that vary in size and style of the car.
3 series (smallest car)
5 series (midsize car)
6 series (new coupe)
7 series (largest car)
The first number of the car name is the series. The next two numbers in all BMWs siginfy the engine size. So 530i is a 5 series car with a 3.0 litre engine. Sometimes the engine size is not exact to the name, but it is close enough. Example. 550i is a 5 series car with a 4.8 litre engine. BMW rounded it up and named it the 550.
See? Easy to decipher. Then the "i" just means fuel injected and the "X" signifies all wheel drive. "D" is diesel. Easy to understand once you get the hang of it.
And welcome to the board.
