St Louis, MO to Tail of the Dragon (Deals Gap, Lanier, TN)
One-way: 9 hours, 520 miles.
Late February to March time frame.
Drive the Tail of the Dragon (more than once) and the 120-mile Cherohala Skyway / Dragon scenic loop:

Leave Wed, scenic drive Thu, return Fri or Sat (avoid most of the weekend traffic at the Dragon).
Hotel in Vonore, TN. It's outside of the Dragon, it's urban, lower nightly rates with convenient access to food and services.
