Seriously I bought them 8 years ago and they were $120! same ones you're talking about.. then I lost one in Northstar snowboarding and had to replace it...

Not sure if I'm going, but Hwy 154 is a really nice road. However with the already lengthy drive and schedule, it might not fit in. You guys can probably make a daytime decision about the route. We should have made it a SB meet instead.
Basically any FRS radio with subchannels will do. Someone mentioned the Cobras and those do fine and cost roughly $20-30 at bestbuy. I've bought two sets of these Cobras in the last few years, but sadly all have been lost or lent out without return.
BTW, how's the nightlife in SLO?

We figured the SB meet will be Bimmerfest.
I was just browsing online for FRS radios and they have Motorola ones that have 25-mile range!!
As for the night life in SLO, it's basically a college town so there should be some bars and lounges downtown but I'm not sure of any nightclubs. Not sure if Keith would know either but maybe he can ask his daughter. haha I can just picture that conversation.

One thing about range is you need a clean line of sight and pretty much perfect conditions to get that distance. Around corners and over hills cuts off communication, at least for my cheapo 8-12 mile radios.
Does anyone know what the driveways are like at any of the stops for the meet?
Specifically the Starbucks in Long Beach, and the Fry's in Woodland Hills.
Imagine 15 or so E60's angling in and out of each driveway......

Northstar?? What were you doing in my neck of the woods and not letting me know or asking for permission?

Thats not your part of the woods... or do you own a cabin up there? Haha
I go up there all the time for snowboarding. My cousins have a place in Truckee so i try to get up there couple times a year and then to Mammoth... Snow man. i love snow. And SF too... they live down the street near UCSF so I'm in the Bay sometimes...
NORCAL is my neck of the woods, Tahoe is my backyard. haha
You need to let me know when you're up here next. I used to have a seasons pass at Northstar and Sierra but ever since we had my son about 3 years ago, we haven't gone that much. Only went twice this year so far.
