My Ride: Barbera Red E92 335
![Default](https://5series.net/forums/images/icons/icon1.gif)
WHO: Anyone interested in a nice drive
WHAT: Paul (pseto) and I are making a pie run to Catoctin Mountain Orchard http://www.catoctinmountainorchard.com in Thurmont, MD (near Camp David). This is a chance to re-stock and get pies for Christmas. This is also serving as a 2nd dry run for the first half of the winter drive I am putting together on January 31, 2009. The drive in January will be longer and will include wine tasting in Va.
WHEN: December 20, 2008 @ 0830
WHERE: Depart Sugarloaf Mtn in Dickerson, MD to Catoctin Mountain Orchard.
People have been known to leave CMO w/ 12+ pies. They are that good. CMO is a mom & pop operation specializing in homemade pies either cooked or frozen uncooked. They also have fresh fruits, preseves, jams, jellies, dressings and cider. Thanks to Paul & his wife I am now addicted to these pies
.
We may head over to Schmankerl Stube (www.schmankerlstube.com) in Hagerstown for lunch afterward. Brunch is $19. Anything off the menu is slightly more. Excellent authentic German food. Owner is from Munich.
The route we are taking are back roads. We will depart from Sugarloaf Mtn @ 0830 sharp from the West View side of the mountain.
Directions of the route will be distributed at the start point.
After lunch I am driving the rest of the planned route for the winter drive for the 2nd time. Anyone is welcome to join me. I will hand out directions.
To get to the West View of Sugarloaf Mtn:
From Northbound 270 take exit 22. Stay to the right at the end of the off ramp.
From Southbound 270 take exit 22. Make a left at the end of the ramp.
Coming from either direction, if you come to 355 you went the wrong way.
Follow 109 Old Hundred Rd. roughly 2.9 miles to Comus Rd.
Turn right on Comus Rd., travel 2.4 miles to the entrance of Sugarloaf Mtn.
Once you come through the open gates into the little lot, look to your right and you will see two little roads. Take the second road. There is a white sign w/ green writing on it at the entrance to the road and a little cabin just beyond the open wooden gate. Follow that road to the top of the mountain to the West View, about ? mile. If you get confused there is a info desk there in that lot.
As we get closer to the date I will PM my cell # to those that have signed up.
I will post this on other boards. Feel free to link it on the Porsche boards or other board.
Folks coming from Va if you want to caravan we will leave from the usual spot @ 0745 sharp. The Dunkin Donuts in Tysons Corner on Rt 7. It is on the westbound side of 7. Counting the light for the mall entrance it is after the 2nd light. Just before the car wash.

UPDATED
Paul called CMO to let them know about our group. They have asked that we call ahead w/ our pie orders. This is because they want to be able to accomodate everyone because we are a large group arriving early in the morning and some of us may buy 5-10 pies. Multiply that by the 20+ people going and we will deplete their supply rather quickly.
This can also serve as a chance to ask about a pie that is not on their site. I think Paul referenced us a the BMW group.
Also the weather that we are expecting on Sat. if for Sat. night, not Sat. day, so don't wuss out.
