Looks like you all had a blast. Just curious, what did you guys use to signal the start of each heat?

I should plan for something like this at the next NorCal meet. Or maybe hook up with my530i and do some test runs with him.

One-on-one was communication via bluetooth with our cell phones.

Three way action, the center car gave three honks and on the third honk was go. Three way was a bit of a challenge trying to line up the cars evenly at a roll.

Yes, but not much. No one really cared who honked. The cars were rarely lined up evenly so that somewhat negated the honker's advantage.

Three honks is pretty much universal. Try it sometime some random person tries to run you on the freeway.

We definately need some videos though. The thing is, say we have a 180lb passenger as the camera person, that will result in about a 1/2 to a full car length difference.

If this ever happens again, we should try some 1st gear rolls where appropriate, say from a 20mph roll or even a 5mph roll. We don't have to hit a high top end, maybe just the top of third or so, or touch 4th.

Good to know. I think you had a better vantage point than me. Thinking back, I was maybe right at your front wheel well or so. Was that about the right distance?

When we first start in 2nd, I thought I got a decent jump before you finally get that surge on me. I could be wrong though.

That 2nd to 5th shift wasn't good, but at least I didn't money-shift the thing. During a quick shift, I sometimes worry about going from 3rd to 2nd by accident.

All the evidence so far, from every magazine test on the 545 to the times recorded on here with g-meters etc seems to indicate that the step in general will be quicker than the manual. Znod and Grogan in their steptronic 545s have recorded better times than the only 550 manual test published to date and I suspect that applying the weight of evidence thus far a 550 step will beat a 550 manual and I would doubt that it makes much difference whether that's from a stop or a roll.
