As a result of the morning's runs my next bimmer (4.4 V8 biturbo) will be a Step.
What happened to the, "six-speed is no joke." Manual is a dying breed, get one while they're still here.

Who knows, by the time the v8 biturbo comes out, BMW might have there version of DSG available.

See.... you shouldn't have missed out! I'm betting his 550 will walk your IS 350. He's not going to be at the Socal Meet Sept 23rd so we're going to have to arrange some other time to do some more runs.

Man... I know... but if party animal hollywoodtrash could barely stay up... I would have been dead. I was up since 6:30 am that morning and went through 8 hours of class and a presentation.

You think so? Walk... trash said the 350 he ran against kept up really well... so it would be interesting how much he'll pull on me.

You can tell... the 1/4 miles times are very decent on the IS but the 1/4 speed isnt that high. so that shows the IS accelerats QUICK during the lower speeds and then looses its umph in the upper ends.

Sorry it took me so long to add a post. I had a great time with you all at the meet. It seemed like we owned the road that night with our e60's. I was a little surprised about the step being quicker the smg but of course happily surprised. The six speed of heezy did give me a fight. Need to do some 0-60 runs with the g meter let me know.

I was a little late to the show, but I had fun.

A few recaps of myself versus Brian's 550. Most of the runs were initiated at around 50mph in 2nd gear. When we start, I normally get the jump, but then Brian would eventually start to slightly pull. The 550 catching up is expected, but the unexpected part is that after a short while, he stopped pulling. Through most of 3rd and 4th, I would say that we were pretty much dead even. Perhaps a bumper edge either way. This result was duplicated multiple times. During one run, we even got into 5th gear a bit and it was pretty much even with no one really gaining.

My last run with Brian was at 70mph in 3rd gear. This time, he starts pulling immediately, maybe gaining a 1/4 car length or so. When shifting into 4th, I gained somewhat, but he may have missed a shift or got off the gas.
Heezy i seemed to have a 3 foot gain on you on our starts in 2nd but remained the same throughout out gear changes.

As far as the 3rd gear start run there was driver error on that one in 4th i shifted half way in revs to 5th. that is why you gained on me.

But i must say your six speed did keep up well. And that was some nice shifting on your part except the time when you went from 2nd to 5th gear

Definitely yes. Just be meticulous in your planning (assuming you want some insights)--as suggested here. If you are very careful/precise, then you won't find yourself thinking what if, and your results will be more credible.

I love 6-speed manuals. I had one in my previous e46. It's just that living in Socal it's bumper-to-bumper traffic all the time. The SMG was the compromise I was looking for. In stop and go traffic, use Auto mode. When having some fun, switch to Manual.

I hope by 2008 -2009 BMW will have their version of DSG. That may still not change my preference of getting a Step though.
