Even though it was just a quick "beep and wave," it was great seein' you guys at the park in SLO on Saturday afternoon. Actually, I had some fun with some of you in the morning, as I pulled my motorcycle into the Long Beach Starbucks at 8:15am, just in time get behind two Forum members as they were leaving for the 405 freeway. Two other 5-ers joined up on the 405, and the five of us sprinted northward, hitting 90mph once or twice. (What was up with that racer-boy Subaru WRX with the flames coming from his exhaust?)
To the Forum member whose girlfriend/wife took the photo of me on the 405 freeway: please post it!
Twenty miles later I left group and peeled off the 405 onto the 10 west toward PCH north through Malibu, because I wanted to avoid the fire smoke and heat on the 101 freeway. Probably a mistake, because I sucked in serious smoke through Malibu anyway (contrary to popular belief, the '07 Gold Wing does not have air conditioning
), then contended with 50mph wind gusts along Highway 1 in Oxnard...the bike was literally tilted 40 degrees into the wind at some points. Hairy!
I made it in good time up to SLO, and said hello to John at the Marriott before grabbing a pescaterian lunch, then popping by to see you guys at the park. I rode up to my favorite spot in California, Big Sur (a nice technical ride through tight twisties), then ended up down in San Simeon for the night, returning home yesterday. Fun weekend! (Photos below: 1) San Simeon sunset; 2) Morro Bay on Sunday morning.)
