Back in 1996 I worked at UUNET.

There used to be an old kind of email called UUCP (the original email actually). Email addresses could use the old "bang style" addressing. An exclamation point is a "bang", and a valid email address was:

domain!user

So... UUNET offered this service (among others). A full address for a UUNET UUCP customer would be uunet!companydomain!username. However, for all of us at UUNET, it was simply uunet!user.

Anyway, every so often, we'd get a nice juicy email from a young lady to one of her girlfriends explaining the graphic detail of her weekend exploits. Due to a messaging error (she didn't really know how to properly use bang style addressing), she was sending her message to our ENTIRE COMPANY. It was a riot, but someone finally spoiled the fun and shot her a message explaining where her email messages were ending up.
