If you -do- end up doing Macs in a corporate environment, for the sake of all that's holy - implement FDE (Full Disk Encryption).
One of the few "real" options available for Mac OS X.

But isn't FileVault enough for a small company?
Depends if you want to actually secure the data or not. Lost+stolen devices happen to every company regardless of size.
Most mid to large enterprises went 100% FDE a few years ago.
not possible. it's a creative shop.

OUCH! thas alot of $$..
it may seems viable to consider thin client solution.
its a host PC controlling a string of up to 8 other users/terminals/PCs

that way, u only need to take care 1 PC system on all yr applications/software.

The main reason I have had, almost exclusively, PC/Windows experience? I have not in my time ever seen Apple deployed successfully in the enterprise and I have only dealt with large enterprise networks. And on that scale Apple is lacking, I do much prefer Novell to Windows (much more stable and robust) - but what killed Novell was the lack of a Desktop operating system. It makes fiscal sense to have a single point of contact and support.

Well, Novell does have SUSE Linux in their stable.
Quite true, and it's quite good (as most professional iterations of Linux are). However, it still does not give a truly viable Enterprise desktop OS. I have a computer in my lab I thoroughly enjoy, running Umbuntu with WINE and I can run Windows OS's and apps with no problem.

thanks. can it integrate w/ a windows domain? that's the biggest issue i have.
integrate i need it to run my startup scripts, map drives, setup printers, set default homepage to our intranet, show the computer name and ip address as the wall paper
if i can do all that on a Mac i'll be mighty mighty happy and do it immediately in my network.

startup scripts.. windows commands don't run on mac os. (but you can have mac automatically run automator or applescript upon login)
map drives - yes, but must admin using os x server. (mac os do not use drive letters). the drives are "mounted". smb/nfs/afp/etc... VERY EASY TO DO.
setup printers - that's done on the client side. but very easy to do when admin using os x server. or push a .plist file to the client computer.
set deault homepage - very easy to to - my client (Fortune 500 company) has this pushed to my mac but I always override it with www.google.com

Show computer name and ip address as wallpaper? yuck. screw that. but it's easy to show computer name ad ip address on the menu bar. much cleaner.
