1972 Morris Marina which died a gloriously tragic death. Car starts to develop what I thought was a wheel bearing rub so I had it booked in to the garage to get the work done. Driving home the night before the work was supposed to be done, and a couple of miles from home the rub gets worse. Rub suddenly becomes a horrific metallic rattle, and with an almighty thud one side of the back of car drops and hits the deck - I'm grinding down the road on three wheels. Next thing I see is my rear wheel roll down the road ahead of me, heading right into an endless stream of oncoming traffic. Amazingly, the wheel tracks straight as an arrow, following right down the center road markings and misses all the oncoming cars, and when it decides to do the decent thing and head off to the side of the road it manages to go straight between two cars and manages to miss both of them. Meanwhile, I'm furiously stomping on the brakes which of course only has the effect of p!ssing all my brake fluid onto the road so the only thing that's going to slow me down is friction - evidenced by the trail of smoke and sparks following me down the road. I manage to pulll over onto the verge and call the garage. They tell me to leave the car there, and they will come out and tow it in the morning. Well, it so happens that the verge was right by a local pub, and that night, after closing time, a suitably "refreshed" patron takes a brick or hammer to the windshield and trashes it. Amazingly, the wheel could have been repaired, the damage to the windshield frame could not, and I had to scrap the car for which I received the princely sum of 20 of our Great British Pounds......

Don, well at least we have something else in common. I too had a ?60 Chev Impala 348 315 hp. Sounded like a modern diesel.

But at least they cannot call us ?Boomers with Bimmers?

Joe
Cool, you, me, and Bob Seager. "In the backseat of my 60 Chevy. Practicing our night moves. ..." My Chevy was only a 327. It was my high school graduation present. I wanted a 315, or by then, maybe it was a 335, but no dice. My friend's mother had a powerglide 1958 348 250 HP. We spent an evening giving her a 4.11 rear end. She never quite knew what happened to her car, but my friend set a record for such cars (A Stock/Automatic)--15.35 in the 1/4 at what then was called Freeway Dragstrip--between Houston and Galvezton. I am not sure if that location later became Houston Raceway Park.

1st - 1984 GMC Pick-up - striped, Einke wheels, tarp for the bed, Kenwood tape deck (with Dolby "C"!) and speakers galor for my ears. - HS car, big time babe magnet!

2nd - 1990 Honda Accord - stock except for the stereo - babe repeller!

3rd - 1992 Honda CRX HF - all of 89HP! 60mpg! Killer stereo - all ADS, with Alpine head unit - GREAT sound - sold it to my friend who still drives it - has 300,00 miles on it - just now replaced the clutch! - Babes kinda dug it

4th - 1977 BMW 320i - Loved this car! Went down the highway like a dream - actually dumped it's muffler on Ventura Blvd. with a shower of sparks. The clock worked. Turn signal came off on my hand. Had to get out and tap down the fuses to get the awsome 4 watt stereo to play - usually just used a boom box. - Babes not likin' it so much

5th - After 320 engine blew - appearantly the temp gauge was not lying... bought a 1994 Honda Civic VX - now 110HP, but 45-50mpg! But it's no Bimmer. Eclipse head unit - Polk Audio speakers - meh. Babes look away

6th - 2002 Dodge Durango r/t - liked it - family man with attitude sorta car - screamed married - my babe liked it

Now BMW 545i - cue sappy music - never going back. Babes are flocking again - for my sons as they get out
