Hi all,
This maybe a stupid question for some, but i just can't figure out how to take a picture at night or in low light settings to capture the lighting of our cars (brake lights, leds, reverse lights, whichever) without have it glare onto the lens or have to look so bright it makes the picture look deceiving.
What setting can we use on our DSLR's? or our regular point and shoot camera? Someone please chime in.
Thank you in advance.

Your camera's built in meter is set to look at the scene as 18% grey. Therefore a very dark scene will look washed out if you depend on the in camera meter. Likewise, a ski slope will have snow that looks grey. Set the camera to manual and use your built in meter as a guide (you'll need to refer to your manual on using the built in meter). Then experiment with the shutter (keep the aperture the same ~f/8 or f/5.6). Slower shutter speed will capture more light. If you want a more night time look, increase the shutter speed and experiment. Use a tripod if you find the pictures are blurry or if your shutter speed gets close to your focal length of the lens (example 50mm lens at 1/60 second shutter and slower should really use a tripod).
