I can't say much about the authenticity but I had the same pic of the old computer in my archives. The person who sent it to me said it was from a 1954 edition of Popular Mechanics magazine.

My copy has a caption that is supposedly from the magazine...

Popular Mechanics pic is a hoax. Majority of picture is recent display of submarine simulator at the Smithsonian Institution. TV, TTY and other pieces were PS'd. Sure is fun to show around.

Thanks for the scoop sg! I suspected it was fake when I looked at the teletype machine -- It looks added in.

I guess if I would have taken an extra 5 seconds out of my life to verify it, I would've found this page...
