I have to laugh when I think about this. My friends and I who travel a lot have sort of a running total. You get points for anyone who's B-list or lower, really old, forgotten, whatever. Here are a few of mine:
1. Matt Lauer. Athens, Greece. He was at our hotel while filming his "Where in the World" bit.
2. David Copperfield. Caracas, Venezuela. He was performaing at the hotel where we were staying. I rode in the elevator with him. He looked sickly.
3. Rod Stewart. Panama City, Panama. Met him at a hotel pool when the drink lady came back and said, Here's your drink, Mr. Stewart." The guy had fuzzy chicken legs. HAHA!
4. Menudo. Panama City, Panama. Major points here. They were opening for Rod on their come-back tour or something. They invited us all to the show, but we didn't go. We did attend the after-party on the 9th floor! HAHA! Ooooo Chicas! Never seen so many little black dresses.
5. Cedric the Entertainer. St. Louis. Sat next to him at PF Changs. He's a local, so it's not that big of a deal.
6. Marshall Faulk. St. Louis. Again, sat near him at a restaurant a couple of years ago before he retired. Talked to him at a party one time.
7. Mark McGuire. St. Louis. Sat a few rows behind him at a movie when he was playing here. Steroids smell just like popcorn.
8. Gary Busey. St. Louis airport. Dude has huge teeth.
9. One of the Queer Eye guys on a flight to LA. He put his lime green LV bag in the overhead and I was thinking, "Who knew they even made that color?"
10. Mickey Dolenz. New York City. He was one of the Monkees on an old TV show from the 60s. My friend recognized him somehow.
11. Michael Stipe and Mike Mills (REM). Athens, GA. Met outside the 40 Watt Club and talked for a while. They gave us directions to Howard Finster's Art Farm.
12. Richard Attenborough. Waterford Kamhlaba UWC, Swaziland. Probably one of the greatest actors of all time, but known in America as the "old guy on Jurassic Park." Had lunch with him at a fundraiser. He was wearing an old ratty sweater and I thought he worked there. HAHA.
13. Richard Hatch. Flight to Salt Lake City. He was the first Survivor winner. I think he's in jail or just released?
14. One of the guys from Earth, Wind, & Fire. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They were playing for a private party during the F1 GP weekend last year. We met him in the elevator at the hotel. Guy had a solid gold Mickey Mouse watch that was about 50mm! He was wearing a retro-looking ringer T that had Earth, Wind, and Fire on it and I said, "Now THAT'S a throw-back shirt!" and he said, "THAT'S my band!" We all laughed for a while as the locals, who spoke no English, looked at us like we were freaks, which clearly we were.
I have more, but those are some of my favorites, mostly due to the weirdness.
