Why are you comparing the BMW Welt to Mercedes' museum? That's very much apples and oranges.

The "new one" isn't so much a museum, it's more like a statement.
The new museum is 6 times the size of the old museum. It is exactly that, however, a museum. They did a superb job, also, with the exhibits. I spent a few hours there recently, there were hundreds of cars and bikes on display and walking through it is a super experience, one to which one should devote a minimum of 2-3 hours.

I'm beginning to think I didn't see it all. I crossed over the road from the old museum and entered the main entrance where the helix-like building is. There was a merchandise shop, a formula 1 car, a couple of energy efficiency exhibits and about 12 cars. Apart from that I only saw an entrance that said "for people having cars delivered only" and the restaurants. I must have missed the signs to the part where there were hundreds of cars and bikes on display. No biggie, I wouldn't have had time to see more than I did. Next time

Ja, I think you missed part of the Welt as well but there is no old museum (in the form of a Schale) as it is also the new museum (granted with several thousand more quadratmeter) .

Last time I went into the museum would have been in 2000 when I had my E39 535 and at that time the museum consisted of only the bowl building. I didn't know they'd expanded it by "several thousand quadratmeter" since then Na ja, macht nichts. Now I've got a trip to the expanded museum to look forward to with it's Seven Exhibition Houses

You'd think so wouldn't you. I think if you don't eat anything in any of the restaurants, or have a car being delivered, you'd be hard pressed to find more than 15 minutes of enthusiast entertainment. There's about 15 cars (same as an above average sized dealership) and a few tech exhibits. The museum across the road was far more interesting last time I went (about 6 years ago).

Sad to say that Mercedes' new museum is more impressive inside than BMW Welt.

Great pictures. I did 2 ED's at the old BMW pick up site, not to impressive and looking forward to doing my 3rd ED at the Welt. Sorry to say I've read quite a few posts over at www.bimmerfest.com and not one post had anything to say negative about the Welt or the Museum like your saying. Oh well to each his own.
cheers

Well, then, it sounds like you have to plan another trip quickly!

The renovated museum opened up last June. Allow at least several hours. I went on a Monday (when it was closed) and got so many photos I haven't even had a chance to catalog and organize them yet.
