JOHN, looks like we have similar taste in Breitling. I bought this 1806 off ebay.de about 5 years ago for $900. When it showed up, it was complete with all the original, box, warranty card(instruction sheet is a copy)...I almost shit myself, seller never mentioned all the paperwork in the auction.

Here's a pic of my 1903 Montbrillant, 1806 Chrono-matic, and chowbox's Twin Sixty as well.

Nice score unreal. Boxes and papers on watch that old are very rare. This is actual my favorite but my father swiped it on Easter and I haven't seen it since

As do you. I don't know how you pull off that Easy Diver. I'm twice the size of you and it looks huge on my wrist (46mm) is yours the 43mm?
that's why I rarely wear it. LOL. It's 46mm one.

At the moment I'm pretty content but you never know if something I want comes up for sale I might be looking to move. If you're looking for something particular pm me. I know alot of people and I'm fairly local so I can always point you in the right direction. Best is to find out what you like. PM me a budget and I can show you a slew of pieces in that range. BTW the Panerai is a great choice because first off its beautiful and second you can always sell it at a very very minimal loss if you get bored of it.

For me the high end movado's aren't really very interesting and the resale is abominable.(good luck selling a used "high end" movado) I'm assuming you mean some of the newer automatics above $2k. I don't consider a watch an investment because it will usually lose some value. Although I get a tremendous amount of enjoyment out of them so I'm willing to lose a bit. The problem with the movado's in my experience is that the movement is pedestrian and the finishing is mediocre, not bad but not great. While the movements on a rolex, panerai and breitling are also pedestrian the finishing is excellent. These Movado's can be had at discounts as high as 70%. To make it worse they also have outlets stores across the country which further cannibalize the pricing on these pieces. While $2k is a substantial amount to spend on a watch you'd have to be crazy to spend it on a Movado because you are correct you've now left the disposable level and moving into the breitling entry level with pieces like the steelfish that can be had in the sub $2000 range. To me these watches don't really have a place in the market because you can buy a far superior brand and imo value for the same investment. I think these are more showcase pieces for movado to offer to some of their die-hard fans to show that they are a capable manufacturer (which they are). I think if you have only one watch and you're dropping over $1k on it a Movado is not even in the range of choices. I actually wouldn't even consider it under $1000 because there are so many great watchs out there in that range as well that a battery operated movado can't touch. (Ball, Oris, some Omega, Sinn) to name a few. Don't take this as me hating Movado either. I had a movado as my first watch but that was 15 years ago and the style looks dated now, where a Rolex Sub, Breitling Navitimer, or Panerai 1950 case shape will never age badly. Those watches have maintained similar designs for 50+ years and still look good. The Navitimer in that picture is from the early 70's and still looks contemporary, I have my dad's GMT from 1963 that also looks like it could be found in an AD. The Movado stopped being current in the 90's. Again this is all how I feel about it. If anyone owns a Movado and loves it more power to you. In the end a watch is a very personal thing and you have to love it not me.

Also some more watch porn

one I should've never sold

old offshore gone
Unfortunately I'm on my work computer now and can't watch the watch porn

I completely share your opinion regarding Movado. I actually got lucky when buying my first Movado - in that I noticed it was a fake and decided not to buy a Movado after that. Luck in disguise, one may call it

I've had a few "fashion" and slightly above fashion watches over the years, but sold everything of a few years back and kept only my trusty Breitling B1. Love it, love it, love it. Yes, movement is quartz, but IMHO nothing else on the market in that price range can touch it. Nothing. Features, finish, quality - outstanding. It is also a big piece, which I like, has nice weight to it. Because of my very positive experience with Breitling and because aesthetically it is one of my favorite watches of all times, I am sort of hunting for a Montbrillant. However, my budget is below that (I'll PM you with some details, like you said - maybe you'll be able to point me in a right direction). I actually came an inch away from buying a Montbrillant Datora about a year ago from a Fla watch dealer - they had two in stock and my buddy was picking up one of them, so they offered an incredible deal on it. It was more than 60% off MSRP!!! But then, my "buddy" came back and gave me some BS about the manager telling him that they cannot sell them at that discount, that they could only do 40% off. Which is not a huge difference money-wise, but the whole experience of price going up as soon as I expressed interest deterred me from dealing with that dealer and I've even distanced myself from that "buddy" bc of this experience.

Another watch that I've picked up recently is a kind of a "wear while I work on my car etc" watch - it is a Citizen with the Solar movement. It is a $300 MSRP watch, but I think in some time it will be worth well north of that, as it is one of the very first editions of this watch and it is virtually indestructible, while to a degree disposable.

here's a pic:

I've changed the band though to a rubber one with stitching that matches the orange numerals.

Anyway, I'll be PM'ing you in a minute

$900?!?! I hate you, sheriff!

What a beauty though! Love that Montbrillant.

But I'm so afraid of buying watches online - especially eBay... I always feel like all the sellers are selling fakes for some reason...

+1 I think I paid around 1800 for mine with nothing but the head and a buckle but I don't really mind it was about market at the time and has gone up since then

while some people feel movados look dated, some think the look is timeless. I bought mine as a fashion peice rather then a time peice i guess.
In the end, Movado was the only one offering a watch in a highly polished tungsten carbide. I have had this watch for about 3 weeks and I have had a lot of compliments. It is almost a little too flashy. When I am out in the right lighting, it can be blinding when the light hits it.

I know I am in entry Tag pricing, but The tungsten has more of a wow factor then some of the detail of a tag or rolex might offer. Considering my range was sub $2K, this watch was by far the best timepiece i could have purchased. I am not really concerned with resale or investment. When i buy a TH carerra or breitling one day, this watch wont be taken out of circulation as the general appearance of it in the right light is stunning.

the metal used was what drew me to this watch more then anything.

can't argue with that my wedding ring is tungsten carbide and the guy in the store took me outside rubbed it on the ground and took a metal file to it and I am wearing it right now and it looks brand new. Again if it makes you happy more power to you and tungsten is definitely the future of mens jewelry but it's very hard to work with which makes it expensive.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I think your above statement can be summarized as:

"I did it to pick up chicks"

In which case, let me know how it works - I might get some tungsten too oh, wait, I'm not single... never mind... dammit Craig!
