A company in NJ has come out with a new GPS system that uses the same concept as the HUD and projects a 3D route-guidance line above the road.

"the company says mass-produced versions will cost somewhere around $400 as a factory-installed option"

... or $2,500 in a BMW, I'm sure ...

I guess its going to be expensive in a BMW but I wonder how would they install the asssembly (that contains the mirrors and the lenses) on top of the dashboard? My E60 has the HUD option so I guess they would probably just install the software and sync it with the current HUD?

nope, will never happen. Our current HUD supports nothing from the above.

Oh, that's sad, so we might end up having two displays, one for the current HUD and the other showing the GPS . Not very convenient

That's not new for the car manufacturers. In fcat, BMW has their own concept.
Actually, nothing more is needed, than stuff that allready exists on our cars. ;-)

Iceman you are absolutely right, I just think stuff like this gives us an idea of what to expect in the future!
