What's real fun is Sea World, but that would be in San Antonio.

Thanks for the input Iceman, although we won't make out that far in that direction
due to time restraint...visited Sea World in San Diego ( awesome )
so I hope I'm not missing out too much in San Antonio...

JDN : thanks for the info...appreciate it. Good tips on the visit to Dallas - we will spending 2 nights there...as far as accessories are concerned, my immediate
purchase as soon as I get the car is to install the gear selector in poplar wood
( interior trim selected ) - my dealer told me it would cost 130 euros ($108)...
whataya reckon? cheaper in the US ?....it's small so transport is no problem!!

Would love to see your E60 up close BTW....

Thanks, buddies...

That gear selector is for an automatic, right? I will check on it for you and feed back. We can surely work out a get together. If you stay downtown, we could do that revolving bar at Reunion Tower downtown. One drink usually leaves me in good driving shape after an hour.

If you stay on the north side, there is a neat BBQ that serves real Texas style BBQ plates (Spring Creek BBQ), but no booze. Might be a better choice. Ribs and chicken are outstanding - sausage, too. Very reasonable if we hit coupon night and not too bad straight up.

You got any dates (calendar type ) for Dallas yet?

speaking for New Orleans, September is usually still pretty warm and humid, though if we're lucky, we might get a cold front push through. Normal high is 88 F or 27 C, lows are 72 F or 12 C. Yes, this is our fall weather. Texas, particularly Houston will be in the same range, maybe even a bit warmer (JDN will confirm, but probably Dallas also). Can be pretty wet also, with afternoon thunderstorms giving a quick downpour, but then moving on.

Andy, weather should be warm and pleasant in Dallas, but could have a hot day.

Things that you might want to see in the downtown area:

West End of Downtown Business Section
1) Dealey Plaza -John F. Kennedy was assassinated while passing this plaza.
2) 6th Floor Museum - the most infamous former Texas School Book Depository where Oswald set up.
3) Conspiracy Museum - Offers a skeptical view of the Kennedy assassination.
4) JFK Memorial - Empty tomb.
5) John Neely Bryan cabin - Reconstructed model of original settler of Dallas. Part of JFK memorial site.
6) Old Red Courthouse - Massive Romanesque Revival structure completed in 1892. Has been superceded by new court house.
7) Dallas World Aquarium that I mentioned yesterday.
8) West End Marketplace - lots of restaurants, boutiques, bars, etc. Features a converted 1911 warehouse.
Downtown and Nearby
9) American Airlines Center - 840,000 sq. ft. sports arena
10) Reunion Tower - S. of West End - A Dallas landmark - 50 story tower topped with a revolving bar and restaurant - 360 degree view of downtown area - can see Ft. Worth on a clear day (fat chance) Great place to get your bearings.
11) Union Station - Restored 1914 railroad terminal. Houses AMTRAK HQ and a station for DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) plus a restaurant unless it has closed.
12) Pioneer Plaza - Great place for photographs with herd of bronze longhorn steer and horse mounted cowboys. Might see if I can get the Beemer in a shot somehow one day before too long. Would have to catch it deserted.
13) Thanksgiving Square - Quiet spot in the hustle of downtown Dallas
Arts District
14) Dallas Museum of Art - Permanent collection of African, Asian contemporary and Indonesian art plus traveling exhibits.
15) Crow collection of Asian art - more than 300 high quality paintings, sculptures, and high quality antiques.
16) Nasher Sculpture Center - a donated world class sculpture collection includes 300 pieces of modern works by Rodin, Picasso, Matisse and others.
17) Morton H. Meyerson symphony center - primary HQ for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
Deep Ellum and Nearby
18) Deep Ellum - Entertainment and arts district settled as a "freedman's town" by former slaves after the Civil War. In the 1920's it was known for jazz and blues, sort of like NO. Today it has lots of restaurants, bars, and clubs -- good place to get tattooed.
19) Farmers Market - Just fun to walk through. Lots of fresh veggies and fruits. Some Mexican pottery on the week ends, plants, etc.
20) Old City Park - 13 acres of 38 Victorian era homes and stores including a working farm, traditional Jewish household and a general store. Popular spot for weddings.

So, Andy, you and your wife can take your pick and see as much as you can. There is also an underground shopping area hidden beneath the streets with some upscale shops, but the best shopping is about 10-12 miles north at the Galleria. If you behave yourself, she might let you get by wo going there.
