Sweet, I am glad you could fit in. We need all the help we can get. I actually have a bunch of Civilian friends that work with us. Though, some think of themselves as high and mighty, for the most part you all are cool.
Can you believe that the other day I was on line in the DFAC and a contractor skipped me. Plain as day no hiding it at all. Just, got in front of me in line. It was Hilarious!!! I thought to myself awwww he's hungry.
(no more thread jack. Sorry!)

Honestly, I was driving around in a 1991 Volkswagen golf before I got my E60 (no mods or even paint for that matter). It barely ran. I bought the E60 when my wife said she was pregnant. Kind of like a really big impulse buy lol. I was thinking about security/comfort and reliability. I actually felt really bad owning it after some come to Jesus moments and I settled within myself to donate or sell it for charity when the time is right.

...Capitalism only works only when the people capitalizing give back...
I personally am not at the level where I consider charity a necessity, but I try to do what I can - I donate to churches and to families I know in more ways than one. But not so much that I can actually be proud of it. I believe the only appropriate way to be charitable is to create businesses that will provide jobs for those with ability to work, but no opportunity to do so, thus ensuring more and more that capitalism continues to grow.
I think also what is contributing to the demise of morals today is consumerism. If Ii ever go for a graduate study, I'll most likely be doing the study on consumerism - I actually have hundreds of pages of notes on the subject already. However, it is a very delicate subject, as it is simply a fact of life (therefore, a moral principle) that anyone can spend their money as they wish and noone can force anyone to spend on anything, unless they agree to do so with their free will. Consumerism - and commercialism, as part of the root cuase of it - is so advanced that it actually affects the rational thought of a moral being without affecting the free will. But determining where good will ends and immorality begins is simple in any specific instance, yet nearly impossible as a generalization...
I think I'll cut myself of now
Much love and respect to y'all guys and gals!
hope to see at least some of you this Saturday on our "Tour D'Poconos"
And have a great weekend!

Start preaching "DRIP" to everyone you talk to.
DRIP = Don't Re-elect Incumbant Politicians
If we forget about voting the standard party line and vote for a non-seated person everytime we can cycle out all the current crop of corrupt morons. Remember, we elect these fools. We can remind them that they work for us.

Well, Brett, I knew we couldn't always agree. America is, indeed, in a period of crisis. And it's my belief that the crisis is a direct result of 8 years of incompetent leadership at the hands of President Bush and the Republicans who dominated Congress during his years.
When Bill Clinton was President, this country enjoyed peace, prosperity and a national surplus. My how far we have fallen.
I too am disturbed by the profligate levels of government spending going on now. But a lot of it has been necessary to stop this country's severe recession from sliding into another Great Depression. Saving the financial system from collapse was outrageously expensive. But the cost of letting it melt down would have been oh so much greater. The Great Depression -- filled with its bread lines and its unbelievable amount of homeless, hungry people, was a direct result of the government allowing the entire financial system to collapse. Business creates jobs. A job is the best social program there is. Businesses cannot create jobs if credit is unavailable. That's why Presidents Bush and Obama have had to bail out the financial system.
Obama is not a cancer. To the contrary, he is trying to undo the cancer that riddled our government at his arrival.
President Bush was not all bad. He kept this country safe in a time of great peril. I was in New York City on September 11th and know folks who perished, including one of my neighbors in my building. The fact that there was no further terrorist attacks during the remainder of Bush's Presidency was no accident. But on economic issues (I'll leave aside my views on Bush's social/culture issues), President Bush and the Congressional Republicans were an unmitigated disaster.
Now here's the bright side for all of the Obama haters. The Democrats now control the White House and both houses of Congress. So if things go south and they mess things up, they will only have themselves to blame. And if they do mess things up, the Republicans will do very well in the 2010 and 2012 elections.
I love political arguments -- as well as our E60's.

WOW! This thread has taken so many twists and turns that I am not even sure what the OP was about. AND... after 5 pages of political, social dialogue, it has remained civil! I am very impressed.

Well, the only thing left is religion...
Barak Obama is just trying to fix all the mess Mr. Bush achieved, as I see it
he is doing a great job, and that's a huge job he has to do.
I wish the US and the world all the best.
PS. If one really feels bad, it's always nice to know that one doesn't live
in North-Korea or Zimbabwe
