This will (and could) make you ill...

You'll probably think twice about drinking from the glasses in a hotel room after watching this:

Here's a follow-up video showing what happens at higher-end hotels like Renaissance and Ritz-Carlton:

I love how they focus on the "Do not drink" on the cleaning agent, how many dish soaps are consumable? But that's just nasty. It's no wonder hotels, cruise ships, and food service are a big source of norovirus outbreaks.

I'm not knocking the quality of the information provided at the site, but.... who creates a site named "Best Viral"? Felix Unger?

I don't know much about that site but keep in mind that it's just hosting the videos that were produced by a Fox TV station in Atlanta.

You can see the videos directly from the television station by clicking the following links:

"Viral" is a coined marketing term, describing the type of marketing efforts that these videos experience. AKA "word-of-mouth" marketing, as we see here in action with this message posting. It's shared from person-to-person via personal means.

I'm at work right now, so I didn't click the link (tend to avoid video sites so I don't show up on any web filter reports). Of course that's what it means.....

My mum used to work at a hotel, she told me tales that make this glass cleaning look like nothing. A favourite is that housekeeping staff will take the dirty towels from each room, and use them to clean the toilets and then the glasses (in that order) before putting them in the laundry. But to be honest, I still use the cups when I stay in a hotel, I just always give them a quick rinse first. It's no different to when you eat at a restaurant (you wouldn't want to know what low paid disgruntled employees do to the food), drink at a bar, etc etc.

Videos like this make me think about the poor kids around the world orhpaned by natural disasters, drinking dirty water (probably polluted with sewerage), from a puddle, wondering where they can find some food and where they will sleep tonight. What they wouldn't give to stay in a hotel and drink water that isn't brown and tastes like shit... If the worst that happens to me in my life time is drinking coke&ice out of a glass that has been cleaned using glass cleaner rather than properly washed, well, I will be a very grateful and lucky man.
