What does the dealer do w/ the clunker?

What does using a clunker have to do with eating in the profit. The dealer isn't paying the $4500, you are via tax dollars.

Whatever the profit margin, no one buying a car, let alone two, should be treated so disrespectfully. You weren't there wasting their time, they were wasting your's.

El, you should always go directly to fleet managers at ANY dealer. As a matter of fact, you call them first and neg. all the $$ stuff ahead of your visit - this way you come in, test drive if need to, make sure all docs are in order, sign and drive away in an hour. Salesmen and finance managers at dealerships are douchebags!
EDIT: ...mostly

We showed up at 10am...test drove, negotiated and finalized pricing by noon. They made us run around to get copies of insurance and registration for a "clunker" they wanted to get rid of. We returned at 2pm with the docs and they made us wait and wait and wait until 5pm or so when I asked my parents to get up and walk out because dealership staff failed to secure the docs for us to finalize the transaction. I circled the finance director's office 5 times politely asking him to finalize the paperwork so we could finalize the transaction...he ignored me as did the general sales manager. After multiple failed attempts, I grew frustrated and walked out.
We're going to Lexus of South Bay on Friday and hope to get better treatment and attention.

I didn't know Benetton had a car dealership! If my cracker ass had been there, we could have re-made "We are the world."
El, not to worry man, EVERY dealer in the "auto square" sucks - trust me. They are all douchebags, my wife's sister had the same experience when she got a Honda Civic Hybrid when they first came out - and she was paying $9k OVER sticker for it!!!! The service is even worse (if you ever have a problem), you should be glad you didn't get the cars there, they probably did you a favor. Try Longo or South Bay, I've heard good things about both.
