Thumbs up

I was wondering how are the speeding fines in Germany considering with how much you pass the legal limit. A friend of mine was caught doing 30km/h over the restriction (130 i think and he was doing 160..ish ) and he got fined with 60 euros. Since i am gonna make a trip to Germany in 3 weeks or so what m i to expect from speeding tickets? What if you're caught doing 50 more than the restriction or 100 over? Like on an 80km/h restriction you would be doing 170-180km/h. What are the fines in that case and at how high can it reach? I'm talking also from a foreing point of view...but what about the germans also? How does the law apply then when speeding?
I'd like some info from you guys in Germany, info regarding both foreing penalty (fines) and national treatment. Since i presume they can't do much to a foreing guy except giving a nasty ticket...

in germany there are some "Autobahnen" or in english "freeways" where you can drive as fast as you want. there's no limit. the ordinary speed limit on normal "Autobahnen" is at 120km/h. some are 100km/h. there you can unproblematic drive 20-30km/h faster.

if you get caught by the police with that speed, they'll take away your driver's license. in the worst case you have to pass the driving lessons again.

Yep... and that's the main reason I'm considering a 530 over a 550 to replace my E39 540i/6. VA is a mobile tax collector state and the only state in the US that still outlaws RADAR detectors.

Obviously i knew about the derestricted autobahns but i was not talking about those since it han't got anything to do with speeding tickets. I understood that 65% are restricted and the rest derestricted.
Also my comment was aimed towords speeding tickets and fines...they can't take away my driving licence since they were not the ones that issued it. I was asking WHAT PRICE do you have to pay if you get caught 30km/h then 50 then 100km/h OVER the restriction. Is there a progressive fee?
