As I understand it comes out of the box with the Android 1.6 but upgradable to 2.1. Any news if upgradable to 2.2 Froyo?
Do you mind telling me how much you got it for? I am very tempted.

Still getting used to the android format, it is new to me, I have not much time to play with it yet so I have not tried to do any upgrades, maybe in a week or so.

I got this online directly thru dell so it was 300 bones with a 2 year contract.

Thank you.

I hope we can get them without a contract. If I am planing to get one, I want to get it as independent as my carrier doesn't have good phones.

I'm in the market for a new smartphone and a tablet. I currently have a Droid Eris and I like the OS, but the hardware specs is so crappy, it makes it frustrating to operate some times. I've been thinking about an HTC Incredible and a Droid X. I do think the Droid X is just too big for a phone. It's better for internet and media, but it's just a big device to be holding to your ear. Felt like I was holding a calculator to my ear.

Android 3.0 is coming out sometime around the holidays and is supposed to be a big leap and I'm sure new devices will come out then. Also, Verizon will be rolling out 4G around the holidays as well and I'd like to see what phones come out then. And Verizon is almost definitely getting the iPhone in 1/11 and if it gets 4G then it would be interesting. So bottom line, I'm waiting for the holidays to see what develops before pulling the trigger on anything.

Same deal with the tablets. I'd like an iPad now, but there are going to be a ton of tablets coming out in 3-4 months including the Verizon/Motorola/Android one which is supposed to be slightly bigger screen, thinner, lighter and with some very cool features.

The Android 3.0 will not be out till Q1 2011. It was only rumors about being released in October and high end phones getting the 3.0 while lower end phones would get 2.1 eclair and 2.2 Froyo.

If you want the 3.0, you will have to wait till Q1 2011, that's what the news says.
One great news though is that Motorola will be releasing 2.0 GHz phones (OMG , mouth drooling ).

I have not had a lot of hands on time with the phone but the touch screen is still nowhere as good as the iPhone.

mmm, that's disappointing. You mean the response speed or touch sensitivity? if it is the response speed, good old Overclocking could fix that.

I agree completely; my tenant has a EVO 4G and it is really the perfect size; it makes my iphone 1st gen feel small
