Me and my mother will be going to New York sometime this fall, and as the hotel I've stayed at for 5-6 times over the past years has shut down, I'm having a bit of trouble deciding which hotel to stay at.
Now, would any of you happen to have some knowledge about hotels on Manhattan? From what I can tell sites like CitySearch and TripAdvisor aren't awfully helpful.
We hope to find some hotel in the Upper West Side/Upper Midtown/Midtown area..

Only make it to NYC for business and usually stay at the Omni. Recently renovated, good central location.

Lots of choices - all depends upon what you are looking for and your price range. Do you want a large chain - e.g. Marroit, a small trendy hotel, or a super luxury. Give us some more information and I can give you some choices.l

Thanks for your replies.. The Omni Berkshire seems a bit expensive for the kind of trip we're planning. I guess our max. per night would be ~$290 (room with two beds).
Me and my father used to stay at the Empire (W63rd/Broadway), which according to its falling standards became incredibly inexpensive by the years (from probably $150 in 99 to about $99 in 03 ). On the last trips we stayed there simply out of tradition - the entire hotel seemed rotten.
Chains? Doesn't really matter - but e.g. Holiday Inn doesn't seem relevant

You might want to check out the Hudson Hotel - one of the newer, smaller "hip" hotels in NYC. Seems like the location and price range you are looking for.

I have recommended the place to friedns and clients, who all gave it positive reviews.
