So I originally bought the xbox 360 when it first came out. I have had very bad luck. I managed to have 6 die on me, and I had to send them in and was on my 7th one. Well my 7th one died last week, got it like 18 months ago. Of course it is out of warranty now and didn't want to pay MS to repair it. I decide I would get another. There were some Walmart deals I had missed out on which had a free $100 gift card. These sold out quick and because of this there were alot for sale on craigslist new, for cheap. People were keeping the gift cards then selling the systems averaging $160. I decide instead of paying $230 with tax, I'd get one off craigslist. I find a seller, and he says he had 6 but already had sold 4. I told him I would take it and decided on $170. I picked it up on my way home. I meet the guy at a burger place near my house. I talk to him for a bit, and briefly check out the 360. I open the box up, and see all the manuals there, and the 360 in the packaging. Didn't look at the rest really, I said OK, and gave him the cash. He "reassured" me twice that it was a brand new system. I drive home and take it out of the box, what do I find? The 360 is clearly NOT new, there is scratches and tape on it. I open up the compartment below, and it is missing the power supply and he included fking nintendo wii cables!! I called the guy up, 3 times, eventually leaving a message. Obviously he did not respond. I looked at the system and it had been opened, and obviously the warranty is voided. All I had was the guys email address and cell number.

So I did some searching on google for his number. I didn't find much but I did find a service that says you can trace the number. I usually never used these kind of services that result on google, but I was so pissed, that I paid the $9. Sure enough it comes up with a result. I look at the name and it indeed matches the email address. This dumbass used a first name last name birthdate email address to be in contact with me. It has his current address, moms and dads name birthdate and numbers. Turns out he lives with them, the asshole is 24. I sent the guy a email with a few choices before this, telling him his options including legal action. Of course he did not respond, so I called the guys dad. The kids dad said he didn't know about the sale, and he would have his son call me ASAP. Sure enough the guy called me back with 5 minutes. He didn't say anything, so I start telling him that he sold me a busted system and he needed to meet me for a refund. He started calling me a liar saying it was new etc etc. He said take me to court. This guy is a really cocky asshole.

So I come to e60 on some advise on what to do. I have a family lawyer who we use alot. I can have my lawyer send him a letter, but then he would have my name and address. I don't really know the sanity of this guy, seeing as how he ripped me off. So for all I know if he has my address he could key my car or do some shit to my house. I could throw the 360 threw his car window, or show up at his house, but I would probably get arrested or something. What do you guys think I should do? Should I barrage his address and number with random ads on craigslist? My concern is that he could trace my cell number if I do that. I can't let me him away so easy. WWE60D

Man, unfortunately, I don't have any good ideas.

If you belong to reddit or something, they'll probably come up with genius ideas. Or maybe 4chan. They are the known to make things popping... real fast.

First off, Im sorry this happened to you. I am not really quite sure what you should do but I think it would not really be worth it to take him to court. I would say that is a last resort option

Why would you say court is the last option? Because its not over a higher dollar item? While I would like to get my money back, I would almost love more to see the guy scared and have justice. I don't think he believes I would take him to court with my lawyer over such a thing, but I would. If I don't get any money out of it and it prevents him from scamming other people on craigslist then it would be worth it to me.

Sounds like a good case for "Peoples Court".

Get a couple of your buddies and pay him a visit.

For $170, eff it. Just sell the system on ebay and call it a day.

go to his house in the middle of the night and take the lug nuts off of all of his wheels. before he even gets out of his driveway, his car will collapse to the ground and be impossible to jack up or tow. it will just be sitting in the street like a fat girl that fell off a bicycle.

damn that sucks. If i was you i would find a porn shop online. Order a bunch of dildo's, sex toys, and some gay stuff and send it to him. Maybe his dad will boot him out of the house and you could maybe put him on the street. Just kidding about that.

Legal action is going to cost you more then the amount your trying to get. Call the police. What he did is online scam/fraud. Save the emails and show them what you got. Screw getting the 170 back....make it cost him 5 times more in legal fee's and tickets.
