Do you think the government will consistently, after each wipe-out by Mother Nature, rebuild New Orleans under the sea? Or do you think, after 5 or 6 $200 Billion dollar rebuilds, our government might rebuilt it about 12 miles inland? Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

New Orleans is already about 40 miles inland but imost of the city sits in a bowl about 10-20 feet below sea/river level.

But I agree that if it gets wiped out again, they should give it up and re-settle up river.

Charming guys, we really appreciate your kind thoughts at this time...

5 or 6 rebuilds? It's been done once and frankly the overwhelming majority of the dollars went to clean up, not rebuilding... Check your facts, becasue you are simply full of shit. You want to save your tax dollars, you'd be better off spending your soapbox time on farming subsidies.

after Katrina, we ended up with most of NO's scum in Houston and many stayed increasing our crime rate etc etc. This year, no accommodation has been made for storm evacuees. Our mayor has already announced that the Astrodome is closed up tight. NO is a prime example of decades of negligence by their own city and state government where it is a handout city for the most part. There are many fine people there, but they neglected the black population for too long. I went to Tulane in NO, so I have been there and done that. No more rebuilding of that city in my book; either there or 60 miles inland.

"They neglected the black population..." sounds like a speech from the democratic convention... What ever happened to personal responsibility?

Huh? More ignorance I see. The city has been run by a black mayor, city council, congressman and school board for more than 30 years. How has the black population been neglected other than by their own leaders?

Sorry about the crime problem in Houston, unfortunately you are correct on that point...

Certainly my thoughts and prayers are with all of the fine folks struggling with Gustav. No need to call me "full of shit". Please watch your language and correct your erroneous facts. I did not say that the government has, in the past, spent $200 Billion on New Orleans 5 or 6 times. My question was future-looking and was really directed, not at the folks currently dealing with Gustav and not at the folks who live in New Orleans who benefit from the $200 Billion spending, but more to the rest of the taxpayers in the US. To clarify my question: how many more times do you think the government will spend $200 Billion rebuilding the City under water - 5 or 6? Or will it one day decide to move the city 12 miles further inland?

Again my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Again? Missed those sentiments in your initial post. Perhaps if you had opened your original comments with your concerns for people living there it would have come across better. Your comments, finally coming a bit late, don't exactly sound sincere.
