If I can organise it in the next few days, I'm thinking
of taking a wee holiday over in the US. Flight in to Chicago,
pick up some wheels and head north through Wisconsin.

I was originally thinking maybe as far as Minneapolis but with further thought,
I might go further north in Minnesota as far as Grand Portage on the
north shore of Lake Superior and maybe in to Canada around
International Falls.

So here are the queries. The last time I travelled in to Canada from the US
(up to Vancouver and on another occasion at Niagra Falla to Toronto), it was
pre 9/11 so getting across the border was as simple as flashing my passport.
I'm wondering if things have becoome more stringent since then. Basically if I
leave the US at International falls will I get back in without hassle. Also, does
anyone know if I will need documentation to enter Canada. Such as a visa.

And secondly, any advice on a possible itinerary for the route up and back. Is there any Must-See items to plan.

If I can get the times and prices to suit in the next few days I'm away otherwise
it maybe Hawaii and Alaska next year. (might as well dream here as well as in bed).

Thoughts from anyone in the Wisconsin-Minnesota-Ontario regions.

If you come in through Chicago, stop by the local baseball stadiums and enjoy a bit of baseball. Visit Wrigley to watch the Cubs and enjoy the Stadium, and visit Comiskey- er- U.S. Cellular Field to see some good baseball and enjoy some good food.

As for the drive up to Minnesota, I regularly drive the Chicago-Rochester, MN route through Wisconsin (Via Milwaukee), and its heavily traveled, heavily policed, and somewhat boring. Off the beaten path there are some nice outdoor areas, and the farther North you get the nicer the geography can be.

Is there anything specific you would like to do or any type of activity you like to do? That would help me figure out what to recommend besides eating/drinking/baseball watching.....
