I bought the canon rebel XTI about 2 months before they released the XSI. I would get the XSI, it can be had for $630 on amazon with the kit lens. I've been very happy with my camera, it uses the same image sensor as the more expensive ones too.
do you have any shots with your rebel xti?

Nikon:
D300
MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Pack
SB800 speed light
14-24 f/2.8
24-70 f/2.8
70-200 f/2.8 VR
50mm f/1.4
10.5mm f/2.8 fisheye
TC 17II teleconverter
Gitzo basalt tripod/ball head
Finally a Nikonian. Me too. My equipment is close to yours:

Nikon D200, 3 years old and 21,000 pictures.
SB600 speed light
12-24 f/2.8
18-200 VR
70-200 f/2.8 VR
60 Macro f2.8
TC 17II teleconverter
Plain old Tripod

I am debating on a good fast lens, either a 50mm f1.4, or the new 24-70 f2.8. The Tamaron 24-75 f2.8 also has good reviews and its 1/3 the Nikon price.

Tex, thanks for the thread. I am looking to purchase my first DSLR and I think the XSI has fantastic features for a great price, especially for a noob to the DSLR world. What brand and where did you purchase your 50mm lens from?

Heavy G, based on your expertise, how do you feel about the Rebel XSI as an intro to the DSLR world. I have some experience years ago with standard 35mm SLR.
