Not sure who else will agree with me but shouldn't you be happy with the car you have instead of making it into another model. I agree with mods to enhance your car but I do not believe in making your car a different model.
I was at the dry cleaners today and parked beside an M3 series(so it says on the badge). After noticing the side panels did not have the grill I new it was a poser. After a brief discussion with the owner I found out they bought the m package to dress it up from a 325 to a 330 and have m labels all over it.
I know from just having a BMW that people like to test you and your car for power. I think it would be quite embarrising to show off an M series to be smoked by some other car.

Curious of your opinions.

I am not a fan of having wrong badges.
The only one I would do is to get a 520 on my 545. I am a big fan of understatement, that's why I am not doing any mods on the outside. No M aerodynamic kit, no rear spoiler, nothing. I don't need ppl to look at my car and be impressed by it's power, I want them to look at it and see the beauty in the design. They will notice the power when they get smoked at the traffic light...

I'm a big fan of NO badges.

If someone wants to take a 318 and give it an M3 body kit, great...but DON'T put "M3" on the back of it. If they want to do anything, they should just take the badge off entirely. I've never understood fake M, "Type R", etc., badges: the only people who would be impressed by them are people who know what they are and will recognize these as fakes. Everyone else doesn't care. So what's the point?

(Ok, maybe there's a third category: materialistic people who think an M3 is a "status symbol", but don't know/care enough about what actually makes an M car to know the difference.)

The rear of the car looks better, waaaay cleaner without badges, IMHO.

When I drove my E30 M3 daily, I used to love it when I pulled up alongside a "custom" M3. You could just see the driver start to squirm and settle into his seat acting if he didn't see me.

I agree that too many badges can clutter the look of a car but I must say, in defense of BMW, they don't overdo it with the badging.

(If you wan't to see excess, take a look at an AMG car. You have the standard model badge, the added AMG badge, and, in many cases, a big 'V8 Kompressor' badge on the side of the fender.)

It is good to know that I am not alone. They were pretty happy witht the M. Silly thing I thought. I figure if you are going to spend all that money after you buy the car you might as well go for the real deal and quit bullshittin'. Course it costs more but now you are not a fake.

I debadged this one. Keep'em guessing. Had a 325is smoke me today. Not really, but she thought she did. She would not have even been interested if it had not been debadged. As it was, I don't think she had any idea what she was trying to do.

I have ordered debadged too. On my 330Ci convertible I had badges and noticed a lot of guys in VW and Opel want to race me to test if they could outrun me.
