oh come on guys ... time for a group hug!

This post was not meant to start a pissing match between the 2 top luxury contenders in the US - BMW & MB.

with gas prices going towards $4.00/Gal - i wanted a vehicle i could fill up with $50-60, rather than 80 .. and would get better fuel economy.

The 530 is currently out of my budget - easy as that. The E320 CDI is cheaper in lease payments, and most definatively cheaper in fuel.

My MB dealer was also WAY more willing to work with the trade that was presented than the BMW dealer ... BMW dealer wanted 10K ... barely moved ... whereas the MB dealer was willing to work with 50% of that since my parents have bought close to 10 cars in the past.

Thanks "Chorethorious" & "cobradav"

i don't think there is any reason to hate on MB so much ... if its not your taste, then fine, Acura & honda are not my taste - but if you switch over to it next week, then so be it. Congratulations & I'm happy for you - to be able to afford a new, luxerious & SAFE car.

Wiz,

Remember they are just expressing their opinions. I actually do like diesels given gas prices and big torque numbers and feel you made a great choice given your criteria and the fact your family had a good relationship with the MB dealer.

Now if you would have passed on a 535d, you would definitely be nuts!

2 week update ... I LOVE IT! the power at least.

201 HP
369 ft. lbs. TQ

i've been playing with the throttle alot, so my gas milage is down in the low 20's - 22.5 to be exact. but it will get better as i get used to it, and play less. this was 100% city driving.

462 miles on this tank.

my father picked the same car up last week for himself, he got about 480 miles on his first tank.

Likes|Dislikes:

Dislike:
1. (the biggest of all) - the center console ... not sure what they were thinking!
2. Interior color - way too light .... next time it would have to be black. but this is what was on the lot.
3. no current MPG display ... at least not that i have found. only for SINCE START and SINCE RESET
4. missing options - no fold down rear seats, xenons, sat radio

Likes:
1. handles well, but not as sporty as the E60
2. Quiet, no electrical issues (yet), iDrive issues (lol)
3. "adaptive" steering
4. LOTS OF POWER! (torque)
5. good gas milage - over the touareg its double, expecting eventually to be tripple.

No mods yet, none are planned - MAYBE, its a BIG MAYBE though .. a chip.
