bha - I presume your iPod has a smaller storage capacity than your music collection? Assuming it is, you don't need actually to manually manage your collection in the way I suspect you think you need to manage it. You can have iTunes randomly fill up your iPod or you can sync preferred artists, tracks and playlists (you can make this pretty sophisticated using smart playlists) and have iTunes make up the rest and fill your device to capacity with random selections. You do, however, need to have the iPod connected to the computer when you make these selections as they are made in the iPod tab and not in general preferences.

Yes the ipod storage is only 16gb, music collection is over 70gb. I figured out how to autofill by selecting the "manual" manage option in itunes, then autofilling the ipod. this sucks though because then I have to manually add anything i purchased.

I need to play around with the software and device more to get to its level of intelligence I suppose.

Thanks for the support guys! And Ken, i guess you can call it assimilated - it feels more like a good assf$%# from apple to me. I can't believe how EVERYTHING is geared towards ipod's - screw all other mp3 players I guess.

I still love my Iriver clix2 with my Shure sound isolating ear buds - can't beat the quality. but to fit in with the rest of the zombie's i had to sell out.

Its all good!

Glad Steve chimed in, I had not made the connection that your iPod was not able hold your entire collection. Guess I assumed you had an iPod large enough to hold everything!
