f/5.5 may be the lowest setting for your lens for that given focal length. Keep in mind that zoom lenses won't always have the same focal ratio across the entire focal length range. Example, a 70-210mm lens might have a focal ratio of f/4-f/5.6. The good thing is that with still life, you can always use longer shutter speeds if you want more DOF under low light situations.
