Hey John, I LOVE my previous Gen Powerbook as its called instead of Macbook pro. If you are looking for one...let me know Im going to be selling mine for 900. It is in absolute perfect condition. I got it Im pretty sure about 2 years ago? I bought this for 1700 or so with the warranty and what not. I dont know if its still on it or not Apple would have to check that out.

John, I switched from PC to MacBook Pro earlier this year and opted for the 17" version. You having said that you prefer the 13.1" screen, I think you may have answered your question already. Go for it! You won't be disappointed. Eventually, I'm replacing all the PCs in the house with Macs.

As for sourcing a refurbished model, Apple offers this from their online store. The stock changes from time to time, based on availability, http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/spec...mac?mco=MTE3NjY

And if you're opting for a brand new Mac, they also offer an "Educational" discount. If you know someone who's in school, they can get you a killer deal on the Mac + Adobe CS software bundle, http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/educ...?mco=MTIxODk0Nw

Since the new MacBook 13" and 15" models just came out, they may be liquidating their previous models as well. You can also get a great deal on these. Ping me on AIM if you have questions ...

MBP user for a couple years here and I have no regrets. If the screen size is your primary concern, then the MB should suffice. I'll compare it to a 528i vs 535i(550) debate. The 528 would have gotten you from point A to B, but you wanted/needed to do it with a little more speed, style and flare.

very well said, get the MBP John!! i have an IMAC 24" almost bought the 20" but im glad i took the larger monitor

money is always an issue!lol

i've always been a pc guy, but have always been very intrigued by Apple and the MAC's. the sole fact they're not affect by spyware and virus' is refreshing. i'll mostly use it for browsing, word & heavy excel work, photoshop and porn....i'm kidding, not really.

Browsing is an attack vector that is growing almost daily, and has no real OS boundaries. There are easy exploits across OSes. While Chrome, Safari, etc... have "porn modes", they don't provide true browser security that a product like Forcefield (Zonelabs) can deliver. Sadly it's only for Windows right now.

This is a good paper from some Google scientists about the growing security threats our browsers are exposing us to.

My cousin won a Macbook from his work, He's thinking about selling it because he already has a Macbook pro. If anyone is interested, PM me and i'll ask how much he is willing to let it go for. Still brand new with box and all accessories. Would be nice to get the thin mac laptop tho, but i also just bought a HP laptop for a nice price on black friday.

I am a PC user but bought a Mac Book air a few months back just for the hell of it. Something light for surfing on the couch. I have to say the best thing is the apple touchpad. I don't know if the mac book pro has the same pad, but it's fantastic. 2 fingers to scroll, 3 fingers to go forward/back. Just blows away any PC notebook when it comes to surfing.
