I know what you're thinking, another search engine. Who needs it when Google does such a great job?

Well, the jury's still out but a local Pittsburgh company has launched it's public beta of it's newest search technology. It arranges your search results in "clusters" so it's kind of like an organized Google.

Give it a try at http://clusty.com and see how you like it...

Will never take off. Google and others will just copy or make similiar things. Good idea tho!

You may be right but you never know. Everyone has their "15 minutes of fame" and these days, Google results are starting to be hacked, etc.

I'm still a huge fan of Google, don't get me wrong. I do think I'll play around with Clusty to see if it gets me more of what I'm looking for. I remember when Google was a big secret and only a handful of people ever heard of it. At that time, Yahoo, Altavista, and Lycos were the top engines. Now, I'm willing to bet that many people have never even heard of the latter two.

Speaking of Google, I have a few available Gmail invitations that I'd be happy to give out. Instead of first come, first served, how about posting a funny (clean) joke. I'll send the invitations to the funniest ones until I'm out.

Sounds like fun, eh?

i tried to search both "bmw forums" and "e60 forums" but our beloved e60.net is not on the top 10 list . it's definitely slower than google but probably still in beta phase. anyway, if it doesn't support e60.net, i won't support them . btw, i have gmail acct but never use it .

I put in "E60" and there was a cluster called "forums".

From there, there were links to the old "e60doit.wisc.edu" site. There was also a link to lomag's old 545 site which redirects here.

I think the beta clearly explains why some of this stuff is going on. Only time will tell if it will improve or become worthwhile.

Rudy, I tried my web site and it consistently came up better than Google. I tried it on several of the web site themes and all did better with Clusty.com than Google.com. I'm sold.

Here's a link to a story that indicates that there is some promise for Clusty...

And here is a little article from the NY Times. about the launch.

There's a ton more stuff out there -- just do a Google on "Clusty"
