Looking to buy an assault rifle
#21
Bother with the 22 if you would like to shoot target practice all day long - the ammo is dirt cheap. Personally, I'd opt for a 9mm, you can get a used one pretty cheap, the recoil is not bad, the ammo is not too expensive, and it WILL provide stopping power should you need to use it as such. Can't see buying a rifle for just target practice IMO.
The AR-15 is the civilian equivalent of the M-16. The only difference is the M-16 has the full auto selection (M161A1) or 3 round burst selection (M161A2). An AR-15 can be easily modified to shoot full auto.
I've never seen any M-16's with a retractable butt-stock. Maybe they exist in the Spec Ops where they have all sorts of nice shooty toys.

Brett, why get an assault rifle for 100 yard target shooting anyway? There are plenty of standard rifles for that, and much cheaper. Regular ones don't look as cool, but that's about it. Also, an assault rifle is not the best for home defense either. Kind of big and clumsy to use for an emergency situation in the middle of the night. You'd be better off getting a 9mm pistol loaded with hollow points (expand and slow on impact) for home invaders. Keep in mind full metal jacket 223 bullets travel a long way, including through the wall and who knows what else they will strike. For home protection, you might even consider a sawed-off shotgun (legal length of course) for that "bad guy" coming through the window at 3 AM. 2 cents.

Good point, but she needs an assault rifle for when the Russians invade....
