I want to buy a laptop and I know many of you are better versed in this than myself.
about 15"
must have/Word/ powerpoint
budget 1-1500

What's the use case? You mention basic Office apps. What kind of mobile user are you? Are you someone who just wants to sit on the couch while they work, or are you a road warrior, etc... ?


These kinds of things can make a big difference in what you should be considering.

Dell would be better than any store bought cause your not stuck with what they give you. Who knows they might have a special and give you a lot for a little.

That's a little cynical.


If we get a good idea of the use case instead of just spouting off what our favorite is (no offense Mac guys) - I think we can make some pretty darn good recommendations.

Macbook Pro (17") Owner here. Has both OSX Leopard and Vista Installed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Get a Macbook or Macbook Pro, then download OpenOffice (free). Apple has several refurbs listed for sale.
