The title of this thread says it all . . . . . Today was my first day back in the office having returned to town yesterday evening from 8 days of fun and sun in and around Sarasota.

This was a family vacation in every sense of the word. . . . as my wife and kids (ages 12 and 8) traveled from MI and my folks (ages 84 and 78) traveled from Pittsburgh to meet up with my brother, his wife and kids (ages 13 and 8) at their place in Sarasota. The beach (Siesta Key and its sugary quartz sand is second to none), the theme parks, the dinners and cook outs (with even an additional 10 family members who winter or vacation in or around Clearwater) were done en masse. The only decompression times available were early in the AM (when I took some refuge by running 10K every other day) or late in the evening as all family members retired.

Concentrated and extreme familial time together can be very therapeutic and unnerving at the same time. Every morning I woke up refreshed ready to face the day. Now that I am one day removed from all of the family activity, I find myself exhausted longing for a vacation from my vacation.

Am I alone in this sentiment or are there others of you who feel the same?

What you need is a nice long, quiet, and curvy drive in the e60! Get to it!

Extended family and vacation are two things I generally find conducive to relaxation--although Siesta Key is a nice place to endure it. I usually schedule one day off work and at home by myself when I get back from extended family events. If that doesn't work, I go with my old stand-bys: crack or heroin.

Weed and alcohol works for me

In all seriousness bro. My fondest memories as a kid were these getaways with family and friends. As a parent though, it can be more effort than relaxation. I agree with that. Like Craig said, I always schedule a day or two to recover. The kids however, probably had a blast. That's what it is really all about

I often say, "There is nothing so stressful as a nice, relaxing, family get-together!!"
